Getting Evidence-Based Articles from PubMed

There are numerous ways to retrieve evidence-based resources from PubMed.  Remember the hierarchy of evidence (EBM Pyramid in the link below) when considering these suggestions.

PubMed Option 1 for Finding High-Level Evidence: Systematic Reviews:

  1. Get to PubMed from a Library Link
  1. Run your search in PubMed
  2. When your results come up, use the left-hand filters, scroll down, and under Article Type select Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (screenshot below)

Suggestion #2 - Clinical Queries: Clinical Studies

  1. Get to PubMed from one of the library's links
  1. Scroll down PubMed's Homepage, and under Find select Clinical Queries (screenshot below)

  1. Enter your search terms in Clinical Queries, and under the search box by default the needed Filter Category of Clinical Studies is selected. There are also filters for type of study (Therapy [the same as treatment], Diagnosis, Etiology, etc.), so select the most appropriate filter for study type, and generally it works well to leave the Scope filter at Broad. You're now ready to hit Search and view your Clinical Studies results. (screenshot below)
