Other databases for psychology topic research

These databases are other places that you might want to look for your psychology research, depending on your topic.

Tips for database searches

Identify 2 or 3 key concepts from your research question to build your search.

  • Example: “Is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy an effective treatment for PTSD?”  Key concepts:  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, PTSD

Use quotations to keep exact phrases together in your search.

  • Example: “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy” or "informed consent"

Use Boolean Operators AND, OR or NOT (all Caps) to connect search terms

AND or NOT will narrow your search while OR will expand your search

Use AND to connect distinct search concepts and narrow your search.

  • Example:  "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy" AND depression.  This search will return results that covers both concepts.

Use OR to expand your search, or link synonyms within a search concept block.

  • Example:  ("Cognitive Behavioral Therapy” OR CBT) -"OR" linking synonyms within a search concept

Use Filters like Peer Review, Publication Date or others to narrow your results.

Check your database Thesaurus or Subject Index to see what terms indexers are using and insert an indexed term into your search.
