Alma at FLITE

Guide for gathering Alma Implementation Information at the FLITE Library (Ferris)

Alma Backend Link

Just fyi, here's the link text that you can bookmark to access Alma:
Do not bookmark where the page resolves -- bookmark that exact link! You can use the search in Alma to find articles students are searching for unsuccessfully using Find It, and choose "Display in Discovery" in the right-hand ellipses to send the link to students.

Current Information about Alma (7.30.19)

7/30/19

Tammy, Dejah and Sela have gotten several conflicting requests to change how Find It, Broken Link Report, InterLibrary Loan, and Google Scholar links appear throughout Primo and our content providers. Through attempting to draft a ballot to get everyone's vote on the issue, Sela realized that instead this needs to be added to the agenda for the next regular Librarian's Meeting and discussed there. The options available can easily become confusing and circuitous, and not every vendor offers the same options. We need a policy that helps us decide what to enable, where to enable it, and why.

For now, we know there are inconsistencies in how these various links are represented throughout our platforms. Our next regular Librarian's Meeting is August 27th. Sela has emailed Melinda asking for this to be included on the agenda and will provide us with a description of our options a week in advance.

7/29/19

Ex Libris provided us with a temporary fix to PubMed linking while Sela works with NCIB on a permanent fix. PubMed Find It links are working.

7/26/19

When a patron clicks on the ILL request in Alma, the ILLiad form wasn't always populating. There was another issue where the form was also duplicating on many of our records (you would see one Interlibrary Loan link with no service description and one with a service description).

That is now resolved. When a patron clicks on any ILL request button found throughout Primo, they will be routed to the right type of ILL request with the form pre-populated after logging into their ILLiad account.

Two tickets have beem submitted for PubMed -- one to NCIB and one to Ex Libris. The link resolver is actually working as designed, but the data match points between PubMed and Alma are conflicting. Sela was told by both vendors today to expect an answer in another 3-5 business days.

Sela can't tell if the answer I get in 3-5 business days is a working link out tool. In the interim, please help by asking students to do one of the following when they find something in PubMed they'd like to request or find in another platform:
Use Citation Linker
Copy the title into Primo and doing the search from there, or
Use the Journal Search on the main page

VisionCite linking is now working.

7/24/19

ProQuest is now working, however if you used Chrome before to access it, you will need to clear your cache to get the page to load. If you still encounter problems, in the ProQuest results page click on the little person icon and select 'Exit ProQuest' > close the tab and start the process again.

The beginning of the URL after you click on "Find It" should be https://col-fsu.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/openurl/01COL_FSU/01COL_FSU:01COL_FSU. If you see something different after you clear your cache or try the weird 'Exit ProQuest' trick, please let me know!

7.23.19

Hi all,

We are one week out from go-live and working diligently to make sure all our content is in the system and accessible off-campus. Please continue to be patient with us as we work through issues with vendors, load content, and resolve problems as they come up. Thank you.

7.18.19

EBSCO's Find It links are working again.

7.17.19

VisionCite and PubMed to EBSCO and CINHAL products below.

7.17.19

Sela has a ticket in with EBSCO to figure out how to set up our new link resolver properly for their parser. At this point in time, if a patron is in CINAHL or other EBSCO platforms and clicks on "Find It", they get sent to back to the basic service page. There may be other platforms that are behaving similarly.

If you see this behavior or receive information from patrons about platforms behaving similarly, please reply to FLTAll so all librarians/staff are informed and either Tammy, Chelsea or Sela can resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Database Not Linking Out

At this point in time, if a patron is in CINAHL or other Ebsco platforms and clicks on "Find It", they get sent to back to the basic service page. There may be other platforms that are behaving similarly.

If you see this behavior or receive information from patrons about platforms behaving similarly, please respond to FLTAll (fltall@ferris.edu) so all librarians/staff are informed and either Tammy, Chelsea or Sela can resolve the issue as soon as possible.
