What to expect

If you haven’t been inside the FLITE Library since early March 2020, you will notice many changes on your next visit. FLITE is following guidelines established by Ferris State University, the State of Michigan, and the CDC to create a safe environment for our users and employees. Library users are expected to follow all university and library policies and procedures.

  • Face Masks are required for all campus buildings
  • Practice safe, social distancing
  • Submit your self-screening form daily
  • If you feel sick, stay home
  • Monitor capacity limits based on the entryway sign

Navigating the Building

  • Please check the Library Hours page for current hours.  Hours differ from prior semesters
  • Book stacks are closed.  However, we will pull and retrieve material for you
  • Fewer computers and seats are available
  • Fewer study rooms are available and there are fewer seats
  • Quiet study space is available in the Reading Room on the 2nd floor
  • In-person events are canceled for the short term.  Watch the library news and our social media pages for virtual events
  • If you wish to visit the Academic Literacies Center, please contact them in advance to learn what their hours are, whether they require an appointment, and if they are offering online support
  • The Jim Crow Museum will be offering virtual tours only.  Contact them for more information

Studying in the Library

To maintain physical distancing requirements of 6 or more feet between people, we ask that you:

  • Study individually or in small groups of no more than 3 in the larger study rooms
  • Wear a personal face covering at all times
  • Clean work surfaces before and after use. Cleaning products are available in FLITE
  • Keep food only in the FLITE Deck
  • Not move chairs or tables
  • Not use the area designated for vulnerable populations during the days and times posted unless you are a member of a vulnerable population.

Room Reservations

  • Instructional Studios and Seminar rooms will not be available to reserve for any groups this semester as they will be needed for classroom instruction
  • Study rooms are only available on the 1st and 2nd floor.  There is no access to the third floor
  • The rooms will be locked so after you make your room reservation, FLITE staff will unlock the door for you. Stop by the Checkout Desk with your reservation
  • Booking times have reduced to allow more students to have access to a room.  We will monitor this and adjust as needed.
  • Faculty can reserve a instructional space by contacting Rodney Gardei at 231-591-3015

Vulnerable Population

  • In compliance with the State of Michigan Executive order 2020-161, item 6, we have designated the 1st floor on Fridays from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. as an exclusive space for users from vulnerable population
  • For assistance, use one of our virtual library services
