Print Client and Drivers

PaperCut for Windows Installation

You can send laser color and black & white print jobs from your laptop computer to any of the printers connected to the PaperCut printing system on the Ferris State University campus. These printers are located in FLITE and within computer labs in Bishop, Business, Optometry, the University Center, and VFS. You will need to install a printer driver for each printer that you wish to use. Directions are described below.

Windows (Vista, 7, 8 and 10)

  1. Download the Papercut.zip file from the link above.
  2. Right click on the Papercut.zip file and choose Extract All.
  3. Right click on the PapercutInstaller.bat file and choose Run as Administrator.
  4. Follow the pop ups and directions as the installer runs.

Important steps that require user interaction:

  1. Copy the link from the text files that pop up.
  2. Click Yes on the HP Universal Printing Installer to accept the EULA.
  3. Click the Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer option.
  4. Click the option: "The printer that I want isn't listed."
  5. In the box below the "Select a shared printer by name" selection paste the link you copied earlier and then click the Next button.
  6. On the "Add Printer Wizard" box that pops up click on the "Have Disk" button.
  7. On the "Install From Disk" box that pops up click on the down arrow in the box at the bottom and select the option that has Papercut\HPupd\pcl$\x##, where $ is either 6 for the black and white printer or 5 for the color printer and the ## will be either 32 or 64 depending on what bit your operating system is, and then click the OK button at the top.
  8. Click OK again on the next box.
  9. You should get the message "You've successfully added FLT_########## on http:papercut.ferris.edu:631," where ######### will either be BLACK&WHITE or COLOR based on which printer you are currently installing, then click the Next button.
  10. If you want to set this as your default printer then you can check the box that says "Set as default printer"; otherwise just click the finish button.
  11. Click the finish button on the HP Universal Printing Installer. The printer setup is complete.
