Clinical Guidelines in Drug Databases

  • Diseases / Conditions: You can look up diseases/conditions in select drug databases, and view the references for the treatment recommendations to try and track down guidelines.
  • Drug Therapy: In some monographs, such as the Lexi-Drugs monograph, there is a Clinical Practice Guidelines section of the monograph that will link you to guidelines for certain conditions that the medication treats.

  1. Use the single search box and search on the disease or condition
  2. When the disease or condition comes up, what you hope to find is information that is for professionals, not from the Patient Education portion of this database. 1. In the above screenshot, the professional information is coming from the Infectious Diseases section of Lexicomp. Even if the diverticulitis is not considered to stem from an "infectious disease" select this healthcare professional oriented information.
  2. Once in the information oriented towards healthcare professionals, at the bottom of the screen you'll find the references for the treatment recommendations. **Look to see what guidelines show up, and be aware that if you find an article, PubMed is a best bet to find the article.
