Finding Theses at FLITE

FLITE does not have one specific thesis collection. Instead, theses are housed in three locations:

  • the general collection in FLITE
  • the Ferris Collection in the University Archives
  • on reserve, in FLITE

The theses in the general collection at FLITE are catalogued by subject. Some theses are housed only in the “Ferris Collection”, which is the specialized collection specific to the University. We ask all students to have one copy bound for the Ferris Collection and one for the general collection. If we only receive one copy, it is preserved in the Ferris Collection and can be viewed under specific conditions here on campus.

Theses Locations

If theses are marked as Ferris Collection, these are located in the University Archives in Alumni 101. The University Archives is open 8 - 12 Noon and 1 – 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Contact the University Archivist, Melinda Isler, at 231-591-3731, if you need an item from the Ferris Collection and are unable to visit the Archives during regular hours. The Archives staff will work with you directly.

Luckily, many theses in the Ferris Collection are also duplicated in the general collection and can be checked out or requested by inter-library loan.  If you live off-campus and your public library is a MeLibrary, you may request these be delivered to you. Otherwise, contact FLITE and we will mail a thesis to you. Your only investment is the postage to return the thesis to us.
